How can you increase product sales 15%? Red Gold Inc., Elwood, IN, did so for salsa by shifting to 16-oz glass jars to reflect the quality of its product. Sales of Red Gold Salsa had been declining when the product was packaged in steel cans.
Colt Reichart, Territory Sales Manager for Red Gold, explains: “We felt our salsa was a product of the highest quality and should not be hidden in a metal can. We decided a premium salsa needs to be displayed in a premium package.
“Prior to conversion from metal to glass, Red Gold Salsa received the most complaints from customers regarding the packaging. Once we converted, Red Gold Salsa is now the most complimented product that we offer.”
Saint-Gobain Containers makes the glass jars, Silgan White Cap Americas supplies the black, twist-off metal caps, and Fort Dearborn Co. provides the die-cut paper labels, printed in six colors.
